Three SIPA Member Companies Represented Among 25 SIIA Emerging Leader Finalists

To celebrate the next generation of leadership in media, content and information, the fifth annual Emerging Leader Awards named three SIPA member employees among the 25 finalists—identified by a screening panel of executives. The finalists had to be 35 years of age and under and from either Connectiv, SIPA or SIIA member companies.

The three are:

· Becca Carifio, Digital Products Manager, IOFM, Diversified Communications

· Jennifer Chalk, Manager, Events and Partner Services, Chartwell Inc.

· Casey Merriman, News Editor, Americas; Editor, Energy Intelligence Premium, Energy Intelligence Group

All three attended the recent Business Information & Media Summit (BIMS) in Hollywood, Fla., and Carifio and Merriman were also speakers there. See the other 22 finalists and the six winners here.


Industry Dive Adds 6 New Journalists to the Newsroom

Industry Dive welcomes six new journalists to a growing newsroom, adding deeper industry expertise and media experience. Counting more than 70 editorial staff, Industry Dive looks to go deeper and farther with coverage of 19 competitive industries.

The six are: Kavya Balaraman (pictured), reporter for Utility Dive; Jeremy Bauer-Wolf, reporter, Education Dive; E. A. Crunden, reporter for Waste Dive; Sheryl Estrada, reporter for HR Dive; Gloria Gonzalez, managing editor for Utility Dive, Smart Cities Dive, and Waste Dive; and Zachary Phillips, associate editor for Construction Dive.

CQ Roll Call's Matson Wins Cartooning Award

CQ Roll Call cartoonist Robert "RJ" Matson has won the National Press Foundation's Clifford K. and James T. Berryman Award for Editorial Cartoons. He will be honored at the National Press Foundation's annual journalism awards dinner on Feb. 13, 2020.

Matson is the editorial cartoonist at CQ Roll Call and his cartoons are also syndicated by Cagle Cartoons. He previously worked at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The New York Observer. He has created cover art for 19 CDs by the Capitol Steps comedy troupe and illustrated several books.

Diversified Communications' The Running Event Reports Record-Breaking Registration Numbers Ahead of Expo

The Running Event, held in Austin, Texas from Dec. 3-5 and produced by Diversified Communications, has announced that to-date, exhibitor and attendee registration numbers are pacing far ahead of any past year's event. That means more than 260 exhibitors and 2,500 total attendees.

"It is at our core to improve and curate The Running Event to be so much more than just another trade show, but rather a platform to share best practices and learn new techniques that can benefit those in the running industry for many years to come," said Anne Gray, event director for Diversified Communications.

Noteworthy to The Running Event in 2019 include: New Product Showcase – One winner will be announced at the Industry Awards Party and will be gifted $1,000 to the charity of their choice; The Big Pitch – attending retailers have a chance to win up to $5,000 for presenting a winning idea to some of the best in the running business; Training Camp at TRE – an area dedicated to bite-sized learning opportunities and product demos.
