After nearly 10 years at CQ Roll Call, including its sale and transition from The Economist Group to FiscalNote, veteran publishing executive Meg Hargreaves has exited FiscalNote and launched a new consulting practice, Rush River Media.

"It has truly been the highlight of my career to represent the stellar CQ Roll Call and Economist brands for these last many years and to partner and work with so many wonderful people," Hargreaves said.

In this next chapter, she will be helping clients unlock their value via everything from strategy development to operational execution, placing a special focus on continuing to mentor up-and-coming women in the industry. At BIMS next Monday, Hargreaves will interview Sean Griffey, CEO of Industry Dive, in a Fireside Chat.

Association TRENDS Launches New Data Transformation Tool, Bumblebee, Designed to Help Associations Tackle Data Duplication and Maintenance Challenges

Association TRENDS, a division of Columbia Books & Information Services, has launched Bumblebee, a data transformation tool designed to help associations tackle two of their biggest data challenges: duplication and data quality.

Bumblebee automates data transformation and cleansing activities while using data science to provide fast and accurate duplicate identification and record matching between data silos. Using Bumblebee, association data is assessed and transformed across four key areas: record duplication ID & matching, format standardization, data validation, and field completeness.

"About a year ago we looked around and realized there were virtually no resources to help associations de-duplicate, cleanse and maintain their data at scale," said Brittany Carter, president of CBIS. "Data is a huge asset to these organizations and there is so much that can be done with it - provided the data is clean. CBIS, our parent company, has a deep history in data research and management and it made sense for us to step in and build a data tool specifically for associations."

"Meet the Consultant: Justin Allen is head of production and video strategy for Ragan Consulting Group. He is a Chicago-based content strategist, writer, filmmaker, producer and entrepreneur."

That's the introduction for an excellent 45-second video ad on Facebook from Ragan Communications. "Find a good story, fill it with emotion. Give me lots of good hooks that keep me watching or make me want to come back for more or share it or come back later," Allen recites.

Spidell Publishing Alerts Fire Victims to Available Tax Relief

In response to all of the horrible fires and destruction taking place in California, Spidell Publishing issued the following information today:

"As a result of [the governor's] declarations, taxpayers directly impacted by these fires may:

  • Make a throwback election to claim a disaster loss on their 2018 California income tax return to secure faster refunds; this election may not be made on a federal return because the President has not issued a disaster declaration for these areas;
  • Request a 60-day extension to file state payroll reports and/or deposit payroll taxes; and
  • Receive a three-month extension to file returns with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration."
