SIIA Supports U.S.-UK Trade Agreement

Washington, D.C. (January 15, 2019) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association for the software and digital content industries, submitted comments today to USTR supporting a U.S.-UK Trade Agreement.

SIIA Senior Vice President for Public Policy, Mark MacCarthy, issued the following statement:

“A trade agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom could set high 21st century digital and intellectual property rights standards that could be emulated throughout the world.  The agreement should make it clear that publicly available data should continue to be available for companies to use for social good, especially in the areas of anti-money laundering and fighting terrorism.  This, and many other reasons, explains why SIIA supports a U.S.-UK Trade Agreement and has submitted recommendations for the kinds of provisions such an agreement should include.
