SIIA Welcomes Announcement of Formal Opening of U.S.-UK Trade Negotiations

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 5, 2020) –
The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association for the software, information, and digital content industries, welcomes today’s announcement by Ambassador Robert Lighthizer and Secretary of State for International Trade Elizabeth Truss regarding the formal launch of trade talks between the United States and the United Kingdom. SIIA’s views on what an agreement should include can be found here.

SIIA Senior Vice President for Global Public Policy, Carl Schonander, issued the following statement:

“SIIA is encouraged by today’s announcement and stands ready to assist in creating a high-quality agreement with respect to digital trade, cross-border data flows (including financial data flows), and intellectual property. In addition to stimulating the exchange of goods and services between the two countries, a U.S.-UK free trade agreement has the potential to positively influence future negotiations with third countries, adding to the importance of concluding talks with the UK.”
