SIIA Testifies Before CA Attorney General on Student Date Privacy and the CCPA

testifies today before California Attorney General Becerra on the impacts of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) on student data privacy and compliance challenges for vendors.

SIIA Senior VP for Public Policy, Mark MacCarthy, issued the following statement:

“The CCPA should be clarified so  vendors servicing a contract to a school, state, or local government know how to  comply. The deletion rights, in particular, must be clarified. Additionally, state requirements for school record retention could conflict with federal requirements for school control of education data disclosed to vendors  if CCPA remains as written.  SIIA released a one-pager describing these issues and how they could possibly be rectified.
