WASHINGTON, DC (February 27, 2019) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association for the software and digital content industries, today announced Carl Schonander as its new Senior Vice President for Global Public Policy and head of its Public Policy and Advocacy Division. Schonander assumes this leadership position on March 1, 2019, after five years with SIIA as Senior Director for International Public Policy. He succeeds the Senior Vice President for Public Policy, Mark MacCarthy, who is retiring on February 28, 2019.
Schonander brings a wealth of domestic and international public policy and advocacy experience to his new position, from leading SIIA’s international policy work and, previously, advancing U.S. business interests as a U.S. diplomat in Washington, D.C. and overseas. His professional expertise includes but is not limited to trade, data privacy, data flows, cybersecurity, intellectual property, internet governance, and international regulatory cooperation.
SIIA President and CEO, Jeff Joseph, issued the following statement:
“I am thrilled to announce Carl as our Senior Vice President, Global Public Policy. Carl’s promotion recognizes his ongoing commitment to providing outstanding service to SIIA and our members and his deep expertise in the core policy issues facing the industries we represent. Carl is superbly equipped to head our public policy team as we continue our leadership in advocating for pro-innovation policies around the responsible use and security of data, intellectual property, digital trade, ed tech and more.
“I also want to thank Mark MacCarthy for his years of service to SIIA. He has set the solid foundation on which we now build. We wish him the best of luck as he pursues his long-held passions and interests in retirement.”
