SIIA Commends Trade Mention in State of the Union Speech - Urges Continued Work with Allies

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 5, 2020) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association for the software, information, and digital content industries, reiterates its support for the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) and the Phase 1 trade agreement with China, referenced during President Trump’s State of the Union address last night.  President Trump was right to mention these significant achievements.

SIIA President and CEO, Jeff Joseph, issued the following statement:

“SIIA thanks President Trump for referencing these significant achievements in trade during his address to the nation. On behalf of our members, we appreciate the Trump Administration’s emphasis on improving U.S. competitiveness for the software, information and digital content industries through respecting intellectual property and ensuring that U.S. technology industries are treated fairly by our trading partners, for instance with respect to digital taxation.  We welcomed the Administration’s successful diplomacy in achieving success for the OECD Artificial Intelligence Principles.  SIIA urges the Administration to build on this record of multilateral diplomacy and coalition building to achieve high quality trade agreements with the EU, the UK and a game changing Phase 2 deal with China that addresses structural problems in the U.S.-China trade and investment relationship.”
