SIIA Welcomes Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 21, 2019) – The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), the principal association for the software, information, and digital content industries, today welcomed the introduction of the Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act (AIIA) in the U.S. Senate.
SIIA Senior Vice President for Global Public Policy, Carl Schonander, issued the following statement:
“The proposed AIIA bill is an excellent initiative that enhances American competitiveness in this enormously consequential technology. The emphasis on algorithm studies, research and development, and workforce preparation is appropriate. The proposed legislation also promotes data sharing. In this context, as SIIA has written, policies must continue to respect proprietary data and models as the government, academia, industry, and civil society work together to promote AI.
“SIIA commends Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM) for introducing this important legislation, urges prompt congressional consideration of the AIIA, and looks forward to working with the Congress and the Administration on AI policy development.”
