SIIA Welcomes Lifting of 232 Tariffs Against Mexico and Canada
WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 17, 2019) – The Software & Information Industry Association, the principal association for the software, information, and digital content industries, welcomed the lifting of the steel and aluminum tariffs against Mexico and Canada.
SIIA Senior Vice President for Global Public Policy, Carl Schonander, issued the following statement:
“The lifting of the tariffs is an excellent step in solidifying support for the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA). As SIIA has written, the USMCA is an agreement that is fit for the 21st century because of its state-of -the art digital provisions. The USMCA is pro cross-border data flows and pro privacy, which is good for both business and consumers.
“SIIA urges the Congress to pass USMCA, and we stand ready to continue to work with the Congress in explaining why the agreement is so important for enhancing U.S. competitiveness.
