Grand Neal and Special Award Winners Announced at Connectiv’s 65th Annual Jesse H. Neal Awards Celebration

Connectiv honors journalistic excellence in 21 categories in the B2B information industry

NEW YORK (March 29, 2019) – Connectiv, the Business Information Association, a division of SIIA, today announced the winners of the 65th Annual Jesse H. Neal Awards. The ceremony was held at Current-Pier 59 in New York City.

The Jesse H. Neal Awards are the most prestigious editorial honors in the field of business-to-business journalism. Named after Jesse H. Neal, the first managing director of Connectiv (formerly ABM), the Neal Awards were established in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial excellence in business media.

Fifty-one awards were presented across 21 categories, including the Grand Neal Award, which recognizes overall editorial excellence.

For First Time, the Grand Neal Award is Given to a Podcast: American Banker’s “Nobody’s Home”

The 2019 Grand Neal was awarded to American Banker’s John Heltman for his 10-part podcast series “Nobody’s Home,” which explored how housing blight is harming communities across the country. The award was presented by Tara Welty, Vice President and Editor-in-Chief, Scholastic Teacher Resources and member of the 2019 Neal Award’s judge’s selection committee. “John’s innovative, exhaustive podcast series tackled tough subjects including discrimination in mortgage lending, gentrification and whether home ownership itself is a good idea,” Welty said. “John’s powerful work has also been recognized by media outlets Politico and Axios for confronting an often ignored yet growing problem.”
