Annual Meeting Encore: Behind the Scenes with Presenter Ande Leslie

The AM&P 2019 Annual Meeting was so packed with rock-star presenters and stellar content, we knew we had to provide an encore.

On January 10, 2020, eight of the most popular and energizing annual meeting sessions will return to the stage at the American Bar Association, Chicago. If you couldn’t make it to AMP 360 in June; you were there, but were in another great session; or you just want to see one of your favorites again, here’s your chance.

For a little backstage peek into the Encore, we spoke to Ande Leslie, marketing manager for SmithBucklin Content. Leslie will present the session “How Social Media Should Influence Content Decisions.”

“I’m really excited about the expansion of the AM&P Annual Meeting event in Chicago as an encore presentation,” Leslie says. “Chicago is home to many associations, and it is great that AM&P is making the insights and education accessible to association publishing and communications professionals based here.”

Leslie: This presentation includes ideas on how to take your storytelling and relevancy to the next level by identifying hot topics through social media — and how to distinguish a good story idea from one that appears to be relevant to your association’s mission and industry, but actually may not be. When you’re looking for story ideas, start by mining the conversations on your social media channels.

This session is for anyone who is looking for ideas and best practices for how to leverage social media to meet the content goals of their organization. The presentation shows examples of how associations are leveraging social media to develop content. Attendees will also be able to contribute to the conversation and exchange ideas with each other.

Leslie: One of the great things about social media channels is that conversations are happening in real time. As communications professionals, you can monitor which topics are top of mind for your audience and develop content to address those specific needs. Years ago, it was more difficult to track down sources. Social media makes it easy to identify and connect with a wide range of experts and contributors.

Leslie: Social media is such a powerful channel to source information, identify trends, and engage with your audience. It is a treasure trove of topic ideas and indications of what is emerging, and a great resource for identifying influencers. Social media is also incredibly cost-effective, which can be a critical element for associations and nonprofits when it comes to developing content.
